The circa 1975 Marantz Imperial 8 speakers are a 6 driver bass reflex design. These large and heavy (78 lbs.) speakers sound and look wonderful. The sound is warm and balanced with tight deep bass from the large 12 inch woofers. High efficiency (100dB) makes these a good choice for tube amplifiers.

#1 Picked these up at Goodwill today for $30.00. I've never seen let alone heard a pair of Marantz speakers before but when I tried to lift them I knew I had to have them. Also, when I took off the grill cloth and saw that all 12 drivers appear to have been re-foamed and or serviced I thought I had nothing to lose.

I was a retail audio salesman during the 1970's, and I remember the Marantz Imperial 6 very well. I preferred its sound over the slightly larger, three-way Imperial 7 speaker. The sevens always had a slightly boxy sound, to my ears. At the time, Advent speakers were very popular, although I did not sell them.
